The Italian Consulate in London reopened their passport appointment service last year September. The Consulate General announces that they opened passport appointments for the two booking systems for the issue/renewal of passports.
To improve the efficiency of the passport services, the Italian Consulate General in London accepts applications only by appointment, except for proven urgent cases.
You can book the appointment via Call Centre, which is open from 8:15 to 12:30 Monday through Friday, or the Online Booking System since September 23, 2020.
However, not all services require personal attendance; you can complete some services via mail or post. You can also obtain some service without an appointment by simply visiting the Consulate during regular business hours. Specifically:
How to Book an appointment?
You have two options for booking your passport or other services at the Italy Embassy London appointment system.
Appointment Booking Online:
Using the online booking tool is preferable because it has twice as many appointments as the phone system.
- Visit the appointment portal.
- Fill out the online booking registration form to access the portal.
- Once you click register, you will receive the activation code in your mail-id.
- Follow the instruction mentioned in the mail and complete your registration.
- Once you complete your registration, log in to the portal with your email id and password.
On the reserved area on the home page, you will see the following headings,
- Book
- My appointments
- My profile
- Change of location
- Disconnect
Click Book that contains the list of the services offered by Italy Consulate London. To proceed with the booking, click on the Book item that corresponds to the chosen service. You can only book a service once per account. At the moment, there are two types of booking available on the booking portal:
- SINGLE BOOKING: The citizen makes a single appointment for himself.
- MULTIPLE BOOKING: The citizen makes appointments for himself as well as other family members.
Appointment Booking through the Call Center:
Please be aware that the call center has 24 lines for appointment booking and a queue and call-back system. To avoid the possibility of the call dropping while you are waiting in line, it is best to use the call-back system.
Those who are unfamiliar with online procedures can book the appointment via the telephone appointment system.
Please keep in mind that the available Italy Embassy London appointment calendar is never more than 12 weeks from the date of booking in Online Booking and 14 weeks in the Call Centre. It is normal to see that there are no available slots if the facility is at total capacity after this time frame.
During this phase of gradual reopening, several slots corresponding to several days of appointments will be unlocked every day at 19:00 until the calendar is full. Every day after this phase, a new day of appointments will “open up.”
What are the consulate services that can make via post?
Some services, such as those listed below, do not require personal attendance and can be completed via mail or email.
- New address update or AIRE registration.
- Birth/Marriage/Death certificate registration (by post). But you can also book appointments and come in person.
- If both parents are EU citizens, passport applications for children under the age of 12.
- Requests for certificates of marital status or residence.
We strongly advise you to review the relevant page of our website relating to the service to understand the procedures that must follow.
Do all of the services offered to applicants who visit the Italian Consulate in person require an appointment?
No, not all Italy London Consulate services necessitate a prior appointment. Some services, such as those listed below, can be obtained without an appointment simply by visiting the Italy Consulate during regular business hours:
- Issuance of Emergency Travel Documents in the event of the theft or loss of the documents.
- Signature authentication for parental consent to obtain an Italian ID document for Italian minors with at least one non-EU parent and adults with minor children. An appointment with the Italian Consulate is required for the authentication of a signature for notary purposes.
- Putting a minor’s parents’ names on their passport.
Requirements for Appointment Booking:
To allow the most significant number of people to obtain an appointment, the Passport Office will begin checking for all requirements before the passport appointment. If the requirements are not met, the missing documents that make issuing the passport impossible will be communicated to the interested party. The Consulate will cancel the appointment without adding the missing documentation. Therefore, it is strongly advised to double-check ahead of time to ensure that you have all of the necessary documents.
Please visit the requirement page to know about the detailed list of documents needed for passport appointment booking.
Please also keep in mind:
- The service is only available to Italian citizens who have registered in AIRE at the Consulate General of Italy in London.
- For Italian citizens born outside of Italy, passport issuance is conditional on registering the birth certificate with the Italian municipality of AIRE registration.
- Please remember that regardless of the existing relationship status, Italian citizens who are parents of minors must obtain the other parent’s consent before the appointment. Please refer to the appropriate page of the Consulate website for more information.

NOTE: Due to the complexities of handling passport applications at the counter, as well as the controls involved for each applicant, as well as the requirement for Italian nationals to be present for the issuance of Emergency Travel Documents, the time slot assigned by the “Prenota Online” system may differ from the actual time at which applicants will be seen at the counter. While we encourage you to arrive on time for your appointment, we apologize in advance for any delays.
