IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers except the following require a passport:

1. Travellers with a travel document issued by Mozambique (green cover).

2. Travellers with an «LaissezPasser» which is issued by the Organisation of African Unity or the African Development Bank provided they are traveling on duty.

3. People without nationality or citizenship and refugees holding papers that are issued by the United Nations.

4. Travellers with an «LaissezPasser» which is issued by the United Nations, provided they are traveling on duty.

Document Validity

Passports and alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid for the intended visit period.

a. Zimbabwean citizens may enter with passports that have to be valid on arrival.

b. Residents of Zimbabwe may enter with travel papers that must be valid on arrival.

Visa Issuance

1. Before arrival: Visitors are kindly requested to contact the nearest Zimbabwean representation.

2. Upon arrival: If it is required, a three-day transit visa, a three-months holiday visa, or a 30-day business visa may be issued upon arrival against a fee ranging between USD 30 and USD 55 according to the type of visa and number of entries allowed to the following:

2.1. Travellers with Palestinian travel papers;

2.2. American citizens. However, this facility does not apply to residents of Guam or the Northern Mariana Islands;

2.3. Citizens of Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, Republic of Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Kuwait, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg.

Monaco, Mozambique, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Palau Islands, Papua New Guinea, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Seychelles, Slovak Republic, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Tonga, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom, Uruguay, and Vatican City.

3. Upon arrival: if necessary, a three-day transit visa, a three-month holiday visa, or a 30-day business visa may be issued for free to citizens of Ghana and South Africa.

Visa Exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Zimbabwean citizens.

2. Foreign residents of Zimbabwe with:

2.1. A valid authority to resume residence issued by Zimbabwe; or

2.2. A residence permit.

3. Travellers with diplomatic passports.

4. Travellers with an «LaissezPasser» issued by the United Nations provided they are traveling on duty.

5. Travellers staying for no more than six months provided they have passports issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China).

6. Mozambican citizens staying for no more than 30 days.

7. Travellers with an «LaissezPasser» that is issued by the African Development Bank or the Organization of African Unity so long as they are traveling on duty.

8. Travellers are staying for no more than three months provided they are citizens of Bahamas, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Barbados, Congo (Kinshasa), Botswana, Fiji, Cyprus, Jamaica, Grenada, Kiribati, Kenya, Malawi, Lesotho, Maldives, Malaysia, Mauritius, Malta

Nauru, Namibia, Singapore, Samoa, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Solomon Islands, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Tanzania, Swaziland, Tuvalu, Trinidad & Tobago, Vanuatu, Zambia, and Uganda.

It is possible to extend the visa’s validity by applying to the immigration authorities during a stay in Zimbabwe.

TWOV (Transit without Visa)

TWOV is permissible for travelers continuing their trip towards a third country within 6 hours on the same day by the same or first connecting plane if:

– they have all necessary documents for their onward trip; and

– they have tickets with confirmed reservations.

Yet, they are not permitted to leave the transit lounge or to make a night stop.

Additional information

1. Residents of Zimbabwe, who are citizens of the Republic of Ireland or South Africa and travelers with British passports, need a valid resident re-entry visa issued by Zimbabwe.

2. Travellers must have onward or return tickets or deposit equivalent money as well as all required papers for their return or onward trip, and enough money to cover the expenses of their visit to Zimbabwe. Hotel bills have to be paid in freely exchangeable currency.

3. Refugees and people without nationality or citizenship must have a re-entry visa of the country in which they reside.

Warnings

Travelers who do not respect entry rules will be denied entry and deported to their home country.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations

1. There are no restrictions on importing the following:

– Tobacco and tobacco products so long as they are in open packages and intended for personal use regardless of the traveler’s age or the quantity imported, but the value must be up to USD 200 allowance for each person to import goods.

– New or used articles up to a total value of USD 200 per person, including alcoholic drinks (permitted only for persons aged more than 18 years old), up to five liters, of which spirits can not exceed two liters.

The allowance may not be requested more than once during a period of 30 days or by persons departing from and returning to Zimbabwe on the same day, which is between 00.00 and 23.59 hrs.

2. The following items are prohibited:

Honey; narcotics and amphetamine drugs; obscene or immoral literature; flick; toy firearms and lockable blade knives.

Export regulations

are no restrictions on exporting goods up to a value of ZWR 5000 by each person:

a. Travellers may export anything that they have bought in Zimbabwe.

Pets

Dogs and cats require a permit issued by the Director of Veterinary Services, Post Office Box no. 8012, Causeway, Harare, along with a health certificate. Pet animals may enter as cargo or as traveler’s checked luggage but not in the cabin.

Baggage Clearance regulations

A traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the first airport of entry in Zimbabwe.

a. Exception:

Luggage of transit travelers whose destination is outside Zimbabwe.

Airport tax

1. A Departure Tax is imposed on travelers departing on:

a. Domestic flights: USD 5.

Place of payment: airport of departure.

2. An Airport Traveller Service Charge of USD 20 is imposed on travelers leaving on international flights.

Place of payment: airport of departure.

Exemptions:

1. Crew members are traveling on duty.

2. Travellers are transiting and continuing their trip from the same airport within 24 hours.

3. Children aged less than two years old.

Currency Import regulations

Local currency (ZWL-Zimbabwe Dollar no longer in use, commonly used in USD. EUR, ZAR, GBP, also being accepted). The importation of foreign currency is not limited. Amounts of USD 10,000 (or equivalent) should, however, be declared.

Currency Export regulations

Local currency (Zimbabwe Dollar-ZWL no longer in use, USD generally in use. EUR, ZAR, and GBP also being accepted).

Foreign currencies:

Zimbabwean nationals and residents: up to USD 10,000 (or equivalent). Exchange control approval is required for sums over USD 5,000 (or equivalent);

Non-residents: limited to the imported amount. A declaration is required for sums above USD 10,000 (or equivalent).

Additional information on regulations

An import license is required to import the following:

Fresh meat, seeds, agricultural products, bulbs, and drugs.

Arms and Ammunition regulations

Customs Officers issue permits on arrival.

Warning:

According to European Union Regulation no 314/2004, the importation of firearms and ammunition, including those for hunting or sporting uses, is prohibited from the European Union into Zimbabwe.
