Overview of Visa for Ivory Coast

IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers need a passport, with the exception of the following:

1. Citizens of Benin, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Senegal, and Togo, have been issued with a National Identification Card.
2. Travelers are issued by any country with a Seaman Book, given that they are traveling on duty.
3. Travelers with documents given to persons without citizenship or nationality.
4. Sent to refugees by travelers with travel documents known as ‘Titre de Voyage’

The Validity of Documents:

Passports and alternative documents, or all of them, must be valid for a duration of at least six months after the date of the planned visit.

a. With a passport that is valid upon arrival, citizens of Cote d’Ivoire can enter.

b. With a passport that is valid on arrival, residents of Cote d’Ivoire can enter.

Issuance of Visa:

Until arrival: Tourists are kindly requested to contact the nearest Cote d’Ivoire representative office.

Visa Exemptions:

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Cote d’Ivoire Citizens.
2. Citizens of Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands, Benin, Central Africa, Chad, Congo (Brazzaville), Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Mauritius, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, Niger, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Tunisia provided they are staying for no more than three months.
3. Travelers with documents given to people with no nationality or citizenship, or travel documents given to refugees if they live in one of the following countries, known as ‘Titre de Voyage’: Burkina Faso, Cape Verde Islands, Benin, The Republic of Central Africa, Chad, Congo (Brazzaville), Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Gambia, Liberia, Mauritius, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Mali, Senegal, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Togo, and Tunisia.
4. Travelers with a permit of residence issued by Cote d’Ivoire.
5. Travelers holding diplomatic or service passports for a duration not exceeding 90 days given that they are citizens of Belgium, Brazil, Israel, Italy, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, or Romania.
6. Diplomatic passport travelers remain for no more than 90 days, given they are Swiss citizens.
7. Travelers with official passports have a stay of no longer than three months, given they are residents of Belgium, Israel, and Luxembourg.
8. Travelers are remaining in Côte d’Ivoire for a period not exceeding three months given that they are French citizens if they have cards showing jobs by a French company in Côte d’Ivoire as well as a (Residence Card).

(Transit without Visa) TWOV:

For all the travelers given, TWOV is permissible:

• They have entry documentation and authorized tickets for a third country; and
• They continue their journey on the same or the first connecting plane on the same day.
• They are not leaving the airport.

Additional Details:

1. Travelers must have a poof of pre-arranged accommodation and all the documentation required for their next journey.
2. Children under 16 years of age who are foreign residents must have as evidence of their residency a copy of their parents’ residence permit and a letter stating their place of residence at school in Cote d’Ivoire.

Customs and Foreign Exchange:

Regulations for importation:

Travelers older than 15 years of age are permitted to import:

• Tobacco, 250 grams, 25 cigars, 100 cigarillos, or 200 cigarettes.
• One container of alcoholic beverages and one container of wine.

Limitations:

Travelers are only authorized to import a video camera for personal use if it is declared upon arrival and a deposit is paid; this deposit will be refunded upon departure to the traveler. Customs duties must be paid in order to carry in video cassettes.

Pets:

1. Without an import license, cats and dogs arriving in the company of the traveler can join. However, they must be accompanied by a rabies vaccination certificate, and a health certificate issued more than three days before the start of the trip by the health authorities in their home country. The health certificate must indicate that for the previous six weeks, no infectious diseases, including rabies, have been detected in that area.
2. An import license is required, in addition to the above licenses, for cats and dogs arriving unaccompanied and for all other pets.

The Exemptions:

Animals from the following countries: Benin, Burkina Faso, the Republic of Central Africa, Chad, Congo (Brazzaville), France, Gabon, Madagascar, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal, in which case it is necessary to apply the certificates referred to in point ‘a.’ above.

Regulations on Baggage Clearance:

The baggage of a passenger should be cleared at the final destination airport in Cote d’Ivoire, given that it is an international airport.

The Exemptions:

The baggage of transit passengers bound outside of Cote d’Ivoire shall be carried immediately to the other aircraft.

Charge on Airports:

Upon leaving Cote d’Ivoire, all travelers are expected to pay airport tax from:

1. Airport in Abidjan:

• Cote d’Ivoire Destinations: XOF 500.
• Africa’s Destinations: XOF 4,000.
• Non-Africa destinations: XOF 5,000.

2. Any other airport or airport:

• Cote d’Ivoire Destinations: XOF 600.
• Africa’s Destinations: XOF 3,000.
• Non-Africa destinations: XOF 5,000.

3. Place of payment: Departure from the airport

4. One container of alcoholic beverages and one container of wine.

Regulations on Currency Imports:

1. Residents:

Local currency (CFA- Franc-XOF): Local currency imports are not limited.

Foreign exchange currencies:

EUR: There are no limits on the import of any EUR amounts.

Other foreign currencies: unless the imported quantities are recorded on delivery, there are no restrictions; in addition, the recorded currencies must be exchanged within eight days for local currency.

2. Non-residents:

Local currency: There are no local currency import limits.

Foreign exchange currencies:

Euro-EUR: There are no limits on importing Euro-EUR quantities of any kind.

Other foreign currencies: there are no limitations, but it is important to report the imported quantities on arrival and to re-export them on departure.

Regulations on Currency Exports:

1. Residents:

The export of local currency (CFA France-XOF) to the countries of the French Monetary Region is not prohibited.

• Travelers are permitted to export local currency up to XOF 2,000,000 or its equivalent in foreign currencies in excess of XOF 10,000 or its equivalent in EUR per annum to other countries outside the French Monetary Region.

2. Non-Residents:

Local currency: Local currency may be exported by travelers up to XOF 10,000 or its equivalent in EUR.

Foreign currencies: Up to the equivalent of XOF 500,000, travelers are permitted to export foreign currencies. As long as they are declared at the time of entry, higher sums can be exported. Similarly, if they are given overseas in the name of the traveler, there are no limitations on the traveler’s cheques and letters of credit.
