IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements:

All travelers require a passport, with the exception of:

– Travelers with certificates that have been given to refugees and people without citizenship or nationality.

Document Validity:

Passports and alternative documents, or any of these, must be valid for a minimum duration of six months.

  1. The ‘British Dependent Territories Citizen’ issued in Hong Kong is allowed for expired British passports.
  2. With passports valid upon arrival, citizens of Laos may enter.
  3. With travel documents valid on arrival, residents of Laos can join.

Visa Issuance based on Laos visa policy:

  1. Until arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact Laos nearest department.
  2. On arrival: If required, a visa can be obtained for a fee of USD 30 at Vientiane International Airport, Luang Prabang Airport, Pakse Airport, and Wattay Airport for travelers staying for a period not exceeding 30 days; only one extension is possible if the traveler has:

– A return or onward ticket and all necessary documentation for the next trip.

– A touch, whether a person or an agency, based in Laos.

– A confirmed hotel booking in Laos; and

– One photo (size: 3×4 cm).

Visa Exemptions based on Laos visa policy:

A visa must be carried by all travelers except for the following:

  1. Lao citizens.
  2. For no more than 30 days, people of Cambodia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, can remain.
  3. Japanese citizens stay there for no more than 15 days.
  4. People of Luxembourg and Switzerland can stay for a period of 15 days.
  5. The people of Brunei spend no more than 14 days there.
  6. Citizens of Armenia, Belarus, Cuba, Georgia, India, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Turkmenistan, Republic of Korea, Republic of Moldova, Azerbaijan, Mongolia, People’s Republic of China, Ukraine, Myanmar, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary.
  7. Russia, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Timor-Leste, and Uzbekistan, provided that they have official or diplomatic passports and stay for no more than thirty days.
  8. Indonesian people with official or diplomatic passports remain for no more than 14 days.
  9. Travelers with a Laos-issued re-entry permit.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa):

  1. TWOV is allowed to travelers to continue their journey on the same plane, given that they have approved reservation tickets and the necessary documentation for their next flight. It is not authorized for travelers to exit the airport.
  2. For refugees and people without nationality or citizenship, TWOV does not apply.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations:

Travelers are allowed free import from non-neighboring countries of Laos:

– 250 grams of tobacco, 500 cigars, or 200 cigarettes.

– Five liters of beer or two liters of alcohol or wine.

– One eau de toilette or perfume piece.
– personal effects.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

On arrival in Laos, the traveler’s luggage should be cleared at the first airport of entry.

Airport tax:

Upon boarding at the airport, no airport tax is imposed on passengers.

Currency Import regulations:

The import of local currency (Laotian Kip-LAK) is prohibited. Foreign exchange equal to or greater than USD 2,000 must be reported to customs officials upon arrival and departure, whether in cash or in checks.

Currency Export regulations:

The export of local currency (Laotian Kip-LAK) is prohibited. Foreign exchange equal to or greater than USD 2,000 must be reported to customs officials upon arrival and departure, whether in cash or in checks.

Wild Fauna and Flora:

It is forbidden or limited under CITES to import some endangered plant species, live animals, and their products.
