As of 1 September, border security measures in force during the first wave of COVID-19 have been reintroduced by the Government of Hungary.

Except for Hungarian citizens, residents, military, diplomatic, humanitarian, transit flights, and foreign nationals attending or participating in some sporting events, Hungary has prohibited the entry of most foreign travelers from 1 September onwards. Travelers with a residence permit with a validity of at least 90 days issued by Hungary can enter Hungary.

Travelers are subject to 14 days of medical screening and quarantine.

To participate in international sporting or cultural events, foreign nationals can join Hungary but must leave within 72 hours of arrival. Travelers must provide evidence that the object of the trip is to participate in an international sporting or cultural event. Two negative COVID-19 tests must be submitted by travelers arriving from the Schengen Region, the US, or Canada, within 5 days of arrival, but at least 48 hours apart. On arrival, passengers are subject to a temperature check but are not subject to quarantine measures.

Foreign nationals arriving in Hungary for business and trade-related purposes can enter the country without the need to demonstrate negative test results or remain within any time limit. Upon admission, travelers are expected to provide evidence of an important business necessity to enter Hungary, such as an official letter from your organization containing contact information for verification purposes or an invitation to a business event. On arrival, passengers are subject to a temperature check but are not subject to quarantine measures.

Travelers traveling via Hungary shall provide evidence that they have crossed the border for the purpose of a direct journey to another destination outside Hungary; indicate the reason for traveling and provide evidence that they are in a position to migrate to their final destination; a travel ticket or similar proof, such as a hotel reservation or proof of address in another country.
