IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements based on Antigua and Barbuda visa policy

All travelers need a passport, except for the following:

1. Citizens of Antigua & Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia or St. Vincent & the Grenadines who hold a national ID, a social security card, a voter’s registration card, or a driving license.

ID cards must include the traveler’s photo and must state his/her nationality. If nationality is not stated, the ID card has to be accompanied by a birth Certificate whose information must conform to the data of the ID card.

2. Citizens of the United States of America with a birth certificate or an authenticated legal document of citizenship provided such documents are accompanied by any proof of identity containing a personal photo such as a Voter’s Registration Card or a driving license.

3. Citizens of Canada with a Birth Certificate or a Canadian Citizenship Certificate of, on condition that such documents are accompanied by any proof of identity containing a personal photo, such as a driving license.

4. Merchant sailors who are traveling on duty, carrying a Seaman’s Book, and joining the ship upon arrival.

5. Travelers with official travel documents such as Laissez-Passer» which is issued by the Organization of American States, the Caribbean Community, or the United Nations, so long as the travelers are on duty.

6. Travelers with a permanent resident/Resident Alien Card (Form No. I-551) that is issued by U.S. authorities to foreign residents of the United States of America.

7. Travelers with the German identity document known as Kinderausweis, which is issued to children provided they contain a photograph of the child.

Document Validity based on Antigua and Barbuda visa policy

Passports and alternate certificates, or all of them, should be accurate upon entry.

a. Citizens of the United States of America may enter with expired passports no more than five years.

Visa Issuance

Before arrival: if necessary, a visa can be issued by the diplomatic bodies of Antigua & Barbuda abroad or by British consulates in countries where Antigua & Barbuda has no representation of its own.

Visa Exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Citizens of Antigua and Barbuda.

2. Citizens of Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago, who will stay for no more than six months.

3. Travelers with British passports who will stay for no more than six months whether their passports refer to their national status or not.

4. Citizens of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, whose visit will not exceed six months.

5. Citizens of Albania, Argentina, Armenia, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Botswana, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Cuba, Fiji, Georgia, Republic of Ireland, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Kiribati, Republic of Korea, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Namibia, Nauru, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Samoa, Seychelles, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Swaziland, Tajikistan, Tanzania, Tonga, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Tuvalu, Uganda, Ukraine, United States of America Uzbekistan, Vanuatu, Venezuela, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, whose visit will not exceed one month.

6. Travelers with a Laissez-Passer» issued by the Caribbean Community or the United Nations, if they are traveling on duty.

7. Travelers with an official travel document issued by the Organization of American States if they are traveling on duty.

8. Travelers with a permanent resident/Resident Alien Card (Form No. I-551) issued by U.S. authorities to foreign residents of the United States of America.

9. Travelers with a work permit who have been given a temporary resident status by Antigua and Barbuda.

10. Travelers with a residence or return permit issued by Anguilla to foreign residents.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa)

1. TWOV is permissible for travelers continuing their trip to a third country by the same plane within 24 hours may transit without a visa, on condition that they have all necessary documents for their next trip.

2. TWOV is not granted to refugees and people without nationality or citizenship.

Additional information

1. Travelers must have enough money for their stay and confirmed onward or return tickets.

2. It is possible for travelers who were first allowed to stay for less than six months to extend their visits up to no more than six months for citizens who belong to visa-exempted countries.

3. Citizens of the United States of America are allowed to extend their visit, but no extension is granted to travelers with expired passports.

Warnings

Travelers who do not respect the entry regulations will be deported to the country they have come. In that case, all expenses, including the stay at hotels, will be paid by the carrier.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations

For travelers aged 18 years or older, there are no restrictions on:

– Two liters of alcoholic drinks or wine.

– 50 cigars, 200 cigarettes, or one and a  250 grams of tobacco.

Crew members customs regulations

The same laws apply to crew members as to regular travelers.

Pets

Cats and dogs are allowed to enter Antigua and Barbuda provided that they come from the following countries: Barbados, Dominica, Jamaica, Republic of Ireland, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, United Kingdom, United States of America (only AA flights) and that they are accompanied by a veterinarian health certificate as well as a certificate of vaccination against rabies issued by their home country.

They must also have an import permit issued by the Department of Agriculture. Travelers are advised to check whether the transporting carrier transports animals or not. The transporting carrier will require advance notice if Antigua & Barbuda is the traveler’s transit or their final destination.

Baggage Clearance regulations

Luggage will be cleared at the first airport at which travelers arrive, which is located in Antigua.

Exemptions:

Luggage of transit travelers traveling on the same day with onward tickets for a trip with LIAT (LI) or Caribbean Express (IM) and whose final destination is:

1. On Barbuda, in which clearance will be at the final airport.

2. Outside Antigua and Barbuda.

Airport tax

Travelers leaving Antigua and Barbuda have to pay a departure tax as follows:

1. Citizens of Antigua and Barbuda: XCD 25, or its equivalent in American dollars.

2. Citizens of Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago, United States of America: XCD 35 or its equivalent in American dollars.

Place of payment: Airport at which travelers depart from Antigua and Barbuda.

Exemptions:

1. Crew members.

2. Government officials of Antigua and Barbuda.

3. Military staff of any country traveling on duty.

4. United Nations personnel, their wives, and children under 12 years.

5. Transit travelers are continuing their trip within 24 hours.

6. Children aged less than 16 years old and infants.

7. Travelers with diplomatic passports.

8. Officials of steamship or airline companies traveling on company business.

Currency Import regulations

The same rules apply to currency import as to currency export.

Currency Export regulations

The export of either local currency (East Caribbean Dollar-XCD) or foreign currencies is not limited as long as the export quantities are announced upon arrival.
