IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers except the following require a passport:

1. Travellers with a National Document of Identity, an Identity Card for Civilians, a Certificate of Identity, or a Military Certificate issued to Argentinian citizens.

2. Travellers with an Identity Card, a Certificate of Citizenship, or a National Document of Identity issued to Brazil, Ecuador, and Peru.

3. Travellers with a Certificate of Identity issued to Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

4. Travellers with an Identity Card or a National Document of Identity to Argentina’s foreign residents.

5. 8. Travellers with an «Laissez-Passer» issued by the United Nations.

9. Travellers with «KinderausweisÂ,» a German identity document issued to children together with a visa.

10. Travellers with documents issued to refugees and people without nationality or citizenship.

11. Travellers with a Seaman Book if they are traveling at work.

Document Validity

Passports and the alternative papers, or either of them, must be valid on arrival.

a. Expired passports that are issued to Argentinian citizens are accepted.

Additional information

1. Argentinian passports are valid for five years, whether inside or outside Argentina, provided they are issued or renewed after March 9, 1992. Passports that are also issued or renewed by Argentinian consulates abroad do not expire automatically upon arriving in Argentina or need to be renewed.

2. Passports issued by the Argentinian Authorities to residents who do not have an Argentinian nationality are valid for two years and can be renewed for a similar period of two years.

3. Citizens of Argentina who are living abroad and who had obtained the nationality of any other county apart from those stated below, are allowed to depart from Argentina with the passport of their new nationality only if their stay in Argentina is not more than 60 days; if their stay in Argentina exceeds 60 days, they hold a valid Argentinian passport. Countries that are Argentina have executed an agreement of double nationality, including Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador, Honduras, Italy, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Spain, Sweden, and the United States of America. The rules apply to the United States of America, which only if the nationality is obtained before October 20, 1981.

4. Argentinian merchant sailors, left in a foreign port, may re-enter with a Seaman’s Book that is issued by an Argentinian Body.

5. Foreign merchant sailors living in Argentina, who was left in a foreign port, may re-enter with a Seaman’s Book that is issued by an Argentinian Body.

6. Travellers with passports or other travel documents issued in Chinese Taipei, Kiribati, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Nauru, Palau Islands, Tonga, and Tuvalu must have a consular travel certificate and a stamped visa.

7. The Argentinian government denies entry and transit to travelers with passports issued by the Republic of Moldova Nistrina.

Minors

1. Children, apart from nationality, aged less than 14 years old traveling for tourism with:

a. Either one parent or both parents: the parent/parents have/have to submit documents proving parenthood; or

b. A person other than the parents: parents’ permission must be secured.

c. Children aged less than 14 years old, traveling alone to Argentina or transiting there, must hold authenticated permission in which their parents/guardians state that the child can travel alone.

* Children aged 14 years old or over: There are no restrictions, depending on their home country’s law.

2. On leaving Argentina, Argentinian and foreign children residing in Argentina, aged less than 21 years old must hold:

a. If they are traveling alone: authenticated permission in which their parents/guardians state that they can travel alone is required.

b. If they are traveling with one parent: a marriage certificate or an authenticated copy of the birth certificate and authenticated permission for travel signed by the absent parent are required.

c. If they are traveling with both parents: a marriage certificate or an authenticated copy of the birth certificate is required.

Visa Issuance

Before arrival: Travellers are most kindly requested to contact the nearest representation of Argentina.

Visa Exemptions

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Argentinian Citizens.

2. Travellers with ordinary passports staying for no more than three months, provided they are citizens of Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Guyana, Hungary, Iceland, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, Japan, South Africa, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Sweden, Thailand & Tobago and the United States of America as wisely.

3. Travellers with British passports endorsed «British Citizen» staying for no more than three months, provided they are coming for tourism or business.

4. Travellers with ordinary passports coming for tourism only and staying for no more than three months. They include the following:

4.1. Citizens of Andorra, Austria, Barbados, Bolivia, Canada, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Cyprus, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, Greece, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Republic of Ireland, Israel, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Mexico, Monaco, Republic of Montenegro, Nicaragua, Malta, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, San Marino, Republic of Serbia, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, St. Kitts-Nevis, Switzerland, Turkey, Uruguay, Vatican City, and Venezuela.

4.2. Travellers with British passports endorsed «British Overseas Territories Citizen» or «British Overseas CitizenÂ.»

4.3. Citizens of Germany on condition that they do not hold an «KinderausweisÂ.»

5. Travellers with Passports issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China) coming for:

5.1. Tourism only, staying for no more than three months.

5.2. Business only, staying for no more than one month.

6. Travellers with regular passports coming for tourism only and staying for no more than one month, including:

6.1. Citizens of Jamaica and Malaysia.

6.2. Travellers with British passports endorsed «British National (Overseas)Â.»

7. Travellers with British passports endorsed «British National (Overseas)Â,» coming for business, staying for no more than one month.

8. Citizens of Malaysia with regular passports, coming for business only, staying for no more than three months.

9. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China with diplomatic, official, or service passports, staying for no more than one month.

10. Citizens of the Philippines with diplomatic, official, or service passports, staying for no more than two months.

11. Visits for a maximum period of 90 days, including:

11.1. Travellers with diplomatic, official, or service passports, provided they are citizens of Albania, Algeria, Andorra, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Barbados, Bolivia, Brazil, Bulgaria, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ecuador, Dominican Republic, Egypt, Finland, El Salvador, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Guyana, Grenada, Guatemala, Haiti, India, Honduras, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Jamaica, Republic of Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, Monaco, Morocco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, San Marino, Singapore, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, St. Lucia, St. Kitts-Nevis, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, Switzerland,  Sweden, Thailand & Tobago, Ukraine, Tunisia, Turkey, Uruguay, Vatican City, Venezuela, and Vietnam.

11.2. Travellers with official or diplomatic passports, provided they are Japanese citizens.

11.3. For the Travellers with a diplomatic, official passport provided that they have British Passports.

12. Russian citizens with regular passports, coming for tourism only, staying for no more than 90 days.

13. Permanent foreign residents of Chile, directly coming from Chile, provided they hold an Identity Card.

14. Foreign residents of Argentina with documents indicating residence in Argentina.

TWOV (Transit Without Visa)

1. TWOV is most permissible for travelers to continue their journey to a third country within six hours by the same aircraft, if they are equally fine:

a. Tickets with the confirmed reservations.

b. All documents needed for their next trip.

* Travellers should consult the transporting carrier if they happen to change the airport or any other flight details. In that case, the traveler must be accompanied by the carrier’s staff. Leaving the airport is permitted only if immigration authorities grant the traveler permission to do so.

2. TWOV is not only permissible for the refugees and the people without nationality or citizenship.

Additional information

1. Due to the outbreak of swine flu (H1N1), all travelers and crew members arriving in Argentina on flights from Canada, Mexico, and the United States of America have to fill in a Health Declaration. 

2. When required, visas are valid for several entries within their validity period indicated in the visa. 

3. Travellers must have enough money for their stay in Argentina, onward or return tickets, and all documents required for their next trip so that they may avoid any delays on arrival.

4. Visas issued to citizens of the Republic of Kosovo with ordinary passports are issued on a separate travel certificate authenticated by the consulate.

Immigration authorities should approve 

6. Visas that are issued to citizens of the People’s Republic of China.

7. Visas for regular, diplomatic, service and official passports issued to Kiribati, Nauru, Tonga, and Tuvalu are issued on a separate authenticated consular travel certificate.

8. Visas for diplomatic, service and official passports issued to Citizens of Marshall Islands are issued on a separate authenticated consular travel certificate.

8. Visas for normal, diplomatic, service, and official Chinese Taipei passports are issued on a separate authenticated consular travel document.

9. Russian citizens are granted travelers staying for no more than 90 days within 180 days.

10. Travellers with Palestinian travel documents are issued on a separate authenticated consular travel certificate.

Warnings

Travelers who do not respect entry or transit regulations will be fined up to treble the fares between their home country and their destination, but not less than USD 1,000, and will be deported.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

Import regulations:

Free import on the (passengers younger than the 18 years) and the import half the quantities as to follow, which is except for the immigrants who as mentioned in 3. who are entitled to import the whole quantities).

residents, who are returning to Argentina after a satisfactory stay of less than one year in Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay or Uruguay and the tourists coming from these countries and persons who are arriving on a contract basis for a stay of less than one year: and up to (the equivalent of) a total amount of USD 100.-:

1 liter of alcoholic beverages;

200 cigarettes and 25 cigars;

2 kilograms of food.

residents, returning to Argentina after a stay of less than one year in countries other than mentioned in 1. and tourists who are coming from the countries other than stated in 1. : up to (the equivalent of) and a total amount of that USD 300.-:

2 liters of alcoholic beverages;

400 cigarettes and 50 cigars;

5 kilograms of food.

residents returning to Argentina after a stay abroad of less than one year, immigrants and persons arriving on a contract basis for a stay of 1 year or more: up to (the equivalent of) which that a total amount of USD 300.-:

2 liters of alcoholic beverages;

400 cigarettes and 50 cigars;

Exception

5 kilograms of food. Applicable once a calendar year, except for those mentioned in 3as fine, for whom a period of up to 5 years applies.

Prohibited: it is not a permitted for that any passenger who is to import the part of their accompanied baggage as follows:

1. meat and or meat products are from any animal species (incl. sausages, cold cuts, ham);

2. dairy products or dairy bi-products;

3. bee products (honey, wax, etc.);

4.The fresh fruits and vegetables; flowers and the plants with the ornamental plants, trees or parts of the trees, bulbs, seeds, rhizomes, and the buds, etc.;

5. insects, bacteria, fungi, viruses, or any other micro-organisms for that research or the other uses;

6. semen, biological products used in veterinary medicine;

7. animal feed;

8. soil.

Export regulations

Free export without any restriction.

Pets

Dogs and the cats require an official International Veterinary Certificate and or a Pet Passport issued with a validity of at least 30 days as finely. For the pets who are arriving from the Mercosur Member States, it must have a validity of at least 60 days.

The Dogs and the cats must be submitted to a broad-spectrum treatment against internal and external parasites with products authorized by the Veterinary Authority within the 15 days before the issue date of the International Veterinary Certificate.

A rabies vaccination certificate is also required. If the pet is vaccinated for the first time, this has to be done 21 days before the International Veterinary Certificate issue date as promptly.

Pets younger than three months of age do not require a rabies vaccination certificate.

An official Health Certificate must accompany the Psittacine birds, and it was stating the fowl plague and the psittacosis has not been as diagnosed as acceptable.

Baggage Clearance regulations

A Baggage is Mostly cleared at the first point of entry in Argentina. Exempt: The baggage of transit passengers are with a destination outside of Argentina, and in case if no change of airport is much involved.

Airport tax

No airport tax is much levied on the passengers upon embarkation at the airport. Learn all about regulations for your destination country. Currency Import regulations

Argentine Peso-ARS, which is the Argentinian currency and foreign currencies that have no restrictions and over in it. However, there are amounts exceeding USD 10,000.- (and or equivalent) must be declared as finely.

Gold must be declared.

Currency Export regulations

Local currency and the foreign currencies: who had prohibited unless the exportation is made through the authorized financial and foreign exchange entities, for the amounts above:

-USD 10,000.- (or equivalent) for the travelers who are aged over 21 or independent minors; and or

-USD 2,000.- (or equivalent) for the travelers who are aged between the 16 and 21 years; or

-USD 1,000.- (or equivalent) for the travelers who are aged under 16 years.

Arms and Ammunition regulations

Firearms & ammunition for sporting purposes is admitted into Argentina if:

– holding a completed “Autorizacion Temporaria de Ingreso Y Egreso de Armas a la Republica Argentina” and the (temporary authorization to enter and leave Argentina with firearms), and it obtained at the arrival.

The applications which must be supported by the appropriate firearms certificate of the country of residence; and follows,

– traveling with the passenger as checked, registered baggage; and

– declared upon arrival. Fee: ARS 200.- (approx. USD 33.-) per firearm.

Wild Fauna and Flora

The import of certain endangered species of plants, live animals, and their products is prohibited or restricted under CITES.
