IMMIGRATION AND VISAS

Passport Requirements

All travelers need a passport, with the exception of the following:

  1. Travelers with travel documents given to persons without citizenship or nationality provided that they provide documentation that they may return to the issuing country.
  2. Travelers are given by the United Nations with a Laissez-Passer.

The Validity of Documents based on visa policy of Georgia:

Passports and alternative documents, or any of them, must be valid for a duration of three months following the expected visit duration.

  1. Passports given to citizens of Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan must be valid only for the duration of the intended visit.
  2. Georgia residents are permitted to enter with travel documents valid on arrival.

The Minors:

Children aged 15 or younger who are traveling alone must have either a passport or a parental consent letter.

Visa Issuance based on visa policy of Georgia:

  1. Until arrival: Tourists are kindly requested to contact Georgia’s nearest representation.
  2. On arrival: a visa may be given to people of Russia at the airport by the Visa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if required, for a fee of USD 30.
  3. On arrival: a visa may be issued at the airport by the Visa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, if required, for a fee ranging from USD 10 to USD 200, depending on nationality, visa form, and period.

Notes:

  • For citizens of India and Pakistan, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs needs a one-month notice.
  • For travelers coming from a country where Georgian representation exists, the fees double.
  • A transit visa may be issued upon arrival if necessary, for travelers staying for a period not exceeding three days, subject to a fee ranging between USD 5 and 15. Travelers must have return tickets or onward tickets.

For travelers coming from a country where a Georgian representation exists, the charges double.

  • On arrival: a visa can be issued free of charge, if required, at the airport by the Visa Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for travelers with a ‘Laissez-Passer’ issued by the United Nations who need a visa in accordance with their nationality and who have a letter of authorization issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia.

Visa Exemptions based on visa policy of Georgia:

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

A visa must be carried by all travelers except for the following:

  1. Georgia’s citizens.
  2. The Citizen of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Moldova, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan.
  3. Travelers who have a residency or return permit given to international citizens by Georgia.
  4. Travelers are staying for no more than 90 days, provided they have ‘British Citizen’ approved British passports.
  5. Travelers provided they are citizens of China, Iran, Bulgaria, Romania, and Turkmenistan, with diplomatic, official, service, or special passports.
  6. Travelers with diplomatic, official, or service passports who stay no longer than 30 days, given they are citizens of Egypt.
  7. Travelers are staying for no more than 90 days, provided they are citizens of European Union member countries with the exception of Romania, Canada, Bulgaria, Israel, Liechtenstein, Norway, Japan, Switzerland, Turkey, and the United States of America.
  8. Travelers with a ‘Laissez-Passer’ issued by the United Nations to federally exempted travelers who are visa-exempt.

(Transit without Visa) TWOV:

TWOV is permissible for travelers not leaving the plane and continuing their trip to a third country. A transit lounge is not available at the airport.

Additional Details:

  1. Travelers with an open ticket are obliged to indicate the identity of the person or organization that has invited them to the visa application form. For a fee ranging from GEL 51 to GEL 357, the visa may be extended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visa extension is free for girls.
  2. Travelers who overstay their visas will be expected to pay an amount equal to three times the amount of the visa fee to cover their overstay duration.

  4. Within three days of their arrival, they should register with the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
  5. The Ministry of Justice must apply for a residency visa for 90 days.

Customs and Foreign Exchange:

Regulations for Importation:

Travelers are permitted to import, free of charge, personal goods weighing up to 100 kilograms, 4 liters of wine, and 400 cigarettes.

Regulations for Exportation:

The export permit granted by the Ministry of Culture for the works of art requested, together with a picture of the piece.

Pets:

A pet passport and veterinary health certificate must be attached to cats and dogs. If shipped as freight, invoices must be sent.

Charge on Airports:

On their departure from the airport, travelers do not need to pay any airport fees.

Regulations on Currency Imports:

Local currency imports (Georgian Lari-GEL) and foreign currencies are not limited.

Regulations on Currency Exports:

There is no local currency (Georgian Lari-GEL) export limits, but up to USD 500 is permitted for foreign currencies.

Baggage Clearance regulations:

At the first airport of entry in Georgia, baggage is cleared.

Other regulatory details:

A document released by the Ministry of Culture should accompany works of art, showing that they can be exported. Travelers must have a photograph of this piece of art. Travelers importing more than 20 kilograms of one form of good will be subject to taxation: GEL 1 for each kilogram.
