Passport Requirements as per Tanzania travel requirements

All passengers are expected to hold a passport according to Tanzania travel requirements unless otherwise follows:

  1. Travelers with a passport/travel document known as ‘Titre de Voyage’ issued by any country except Chinese Taipei, Republic of Korea, and South Africa to refugees according to the Geneva Convention of 1951 and the London Convention of 1946
  2. Travelers with ‘Kinderausweis,’ a German identity document (national ID) issued to children under 16 years old, provided the document contains a child’s photo.
  3. Travelers/Passengers with a ‘Laissez-Passer,’ issued by the United Nations (UN), provided they are traveling on duty.
  4. Travelers with a Seaman Book issued by any country except Chinese Taipei, Republic of Korea, and the Republic of South Africa so long as they are traveling on duty

Document Validity

As per Tanzania travel requirements, passports/travel documents and alternative papers, or either of them, have to be valid for at least six months after the date of arrival.

Tanzanian citizens may enter with passports/travel documents that must be valid upon arrival.

Residents of Tanzania may enter with passports/travel papers, which have to be valid on arrival.

Visa Issuance according to Tanzania visa policy

1. before arrival: Travelers are kindly requested to contact the nearest Embassy or consulate (representation) of Tanzania or the Principal Immigration Officer, Post Office Box 512, Dar-es-Salaam.

2. On arrival: if necessary, a Tanzania visa can be issued (fees vary between USD 50 and USD 200 according to nationality, stay type, and number of entries)

  • Italian citizens, However, it is highly advisable to get a visa before arrival.
  • Citizens of other countries, except citizens of Chad, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kazakhstan, Equatorial Guinea, Kyrgyzstan, Mali, Mauritania, Lebanon, Morocco, Senegal, Niger, Sierra Leone, Tajikistan, Somalia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, and Afghanistan, who have ordinary passports
  • French people are coming for tourism purposes only.

3. Upon arrival – if necessary, a visitor’s pass is issued to citizens of:

Bahamas, Antigua & Barbuda, Belize, Barbados, Brunei, Botswana, Dominica, Cyprus, Fiji, Guyana, Ireland, Grenada, Kiribati, Jamaica, Lesotho, Malaysia, Malta, Malawi, Mauritius, Papua New Guinea, Nauru, Rwanda, Seychelles, Romania, Singapore, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Solomon Islands, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent & the Grenadines, Saint Lucia, Swaziland, Trinidad & Tobago, Tonga, Tuvalu, Zambia, Vanuatu, and Zimbabwe.

Visa Exemptions according to Tanzania visa policy

All travelers must hold a visa except the following:

1. Tanzanian citizens.

2. Travelers/Visitors with a re-entry permit that Tanzania issues.

3. Travelers/Visitors with a ‘Laissez-passer,’ issued by the United Nations so long as they are traveling on duty.

4. Citizens of Kenya and Uganda, staying for no more than three months.

5. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China as long as they have

Service passports or diplomatic passports and are staying for no more than two months.

Travelers with passports/travel documents issued by Hong Kong (A Special Administrative Region of China) and Macao (A Special Administrative Region of China) stay three months.

TWOV (Transit without Visa) according to Tanzania visa policy

TWOV (Transit without Visa) is permissible for travelers continuing their trip towards a third country by the same or first connecting plane on the same day without leaving the airport transit area.

Additional Information

1. Travelers must have return or onward tickets and all papers/documents required for their next trip.

2. A referred visa, authorized by the immigration authorities, together with a faxed copy of the visa, is required by:

Refugees and people without nationality/citizenship.

Citizens of all other countries, except citizens of Chad, Bangladesh, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Kazakhstan, Eritrea, Kyrgyzstan, Ethiopia, Mali, Mauritania, Lebanon, Morocco, Senegal, Niger, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and citizens of Afghanistan with a regular travel document

Warnings

If travelers do not abide by visa requirements, they will be deported by the immigration authorities on the same flight.

CUSTOMS AND FOREIGN EXCHANGE

There are no restrictions on importing the following:

  • One bottle of alcoholic beverage
  • One pint of 580ml perfume
  • Two hundred pieces of cigarettes or 250 grams of tobacco, or 50 cigars.

Export regulations based on Tanzania visa policy

There are no restrictions on the export of a moderate number of Alcoholic beverages and tobacco products.

Pets

The import of pet animals requires a Health certificate issued by a competent veterinary surgeon. All live animals will be examined upon arrival and will be isolated for a certain period. Dogs and cats must be vaccinated against rabies.

For dogs, they must have been vaccinated not more than three years and not less than six months before arrival; however, cats must have been vaccinated not more than one year and not less than one month before arrival.

Baggage Clearance regulations based on Tanzania visa policy

Airport authorities should clear a Passenger/traveler’s luggage at the airport of the final destination in Tanzania.

Exception:

Luggage of Passengers/traveler’s whose destination is outside Tanzania.

Airport tax

According to Tanzania visa policy, all travelers cannot pay any airport fee when leaving the airport.

Currency Import regulations as per Tanzania visa policy

Residents of Tanzania, Kenya, or Uganda can import local currency (Tanzanian Shillings- TZS) up to the exported sums. Non-residents are not allowed to import local currency.

There are no restrictions on importing foreign currencies by residents and non-residents as long as the imported sums are declared upon arrival.

Currency Export regulations as per Tanzania visa policy

Residents of Tanzania, Kenya, or Uganda can export up to TZS 1,000 local currency (Tanzanian Shillings- TZS). It is not permitted for non-residents to export local currency.

Residents need the Central Bank’s permit to export foreign currencies. As per the amount declared upon arrival, non-residents can export foreign currencies.

1. Due to the outbreak of bird flu, it is prohibited to import poultry and poultry products coming from the following countries for an indefinite period: The people’s Republic of China (including Hong Kong and Macao), Cambodia, Egypt, India, Greece, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Laos, Italy, Malaysia, Pakistan, Mongolia, Romania, South Africa, Russia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, and Vietnam. All import permits previously issued and not used are automatically canceled.

2. A video camera for personal use may be imported and exported as long as it is declared and recorded on arrival.

Arms and Ammunition regulations as per Tanzania visa policy

It is recommended to obtain a police permit before importation because firearms will be lodged with the customs until the permit is issued.

Wild Fauna and Flora as per Tanzania visa policy

You need to import plants and their products, and it is necessary to obtain a phytosanitary certificate. An additional declaration is required to import fruits, which states that Xanthomonas citri (Hasse) Dowson does not exist in the home country.
