Thailand Visas for US residents are not required for a short-term trip to Thailand. If you are a US citizen and holding a US passport valid for at least six months from the day you arrive in Thailand, you can enter Thailand on a Free Visa Exemption as long as your expected stay in Thailand does not extend 30 days.

If you are a US citizen and visitors plan to stay in Thailand for more than 30 days, visitors should get another type of Thailand Visa in advance.

Is the Health Declaration (T.8 Form) mandatory for US citizens when they enter Thailand?

US citizens are required to obtain the Health Certificate (T.8 Form) from now on, and the Thai government is taking steps to allow US travelers to visit their country in the safest manner possible. They have issued the Declaration of Thailand Health, which you can obtain via an online application process. This Declaration on Health serves as evidence to confirm that travelers do not have coronavirus, encouraging their entry into Thailand and preventing the spread of this disease in this region.

However, irrespective of nationality or visa status, it is now applied for arrivals from all countries. According to Section 12(7) of the immigration law, anyone who refuses to comply with this new regulation will be barred from passing through immigration checkpoints and denied entry into Thailand. It will prosecute anyone who provides misleading or inaccurate information.

What is the Health Declaration?

The Thailand Health Declaration is a new official and mandatory document released by the Thai Government, the purpose of which is to minimize the spread of COVID-19 in Thailand by a stringent means of entry for those intending to enter Thailand. A health statement or a T8 form is a compulsory requirement to be submitted by all passengers to the authorities upon arrival in Thailand. In addition to personal information such as name, nationality, passport number, mobile phone number, and email address, you will also need to let the authorities know about any symptoms you have encountered during the past two weeks, including Diarrhea, Vomiting, Abdominal pain, Fever, Rash, Headache, sore throat, Jaundice, Cough or shortness of breath, Enlarged lymph glands or tender lumps and Other (specify).

If there is a case of COVID-19 on your flight or in your vicinity, the personal details you provide will mainly be used by Thai health officials for contact monitoring. Your data is only kept.

What are the criteria for US citizens to enter Thailand even if they are exempt from visas?

US citizens could use Thailand Free Visa-Exempt Stay  if they have the following:

  • Passport for US residents valid for at least six months from the day of your arrival.
  • Check-in or return ticket within 30 days
  • Duly filled-in Arrival Card, which you will collect during your flight.
  • A confirmation of funds-at least 10,000 THB in cash per person and 20,000 THB per family.

How long US Citizens can stay in Thailand with the Health Declaration?

The Health Declaration (T.8 Form) does not provide a fixed number of days for the traveler to be in the country, since this certificate can only be used once (when you reach the country). This ensures that the Health Declaration allows you a single entry. As a US resident, you do not need a visa to fly to Thailand, but you can stay in Thailand for a total of 30 days.
